Alice Louise White Almy

Alice Louise White Almy, 79, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her children and their spouses. Alice was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on January 15, 1940, the daughter of Elizabeth Marvette Bailey White and Ronald Blanchard White. Alice was married 53 years to the love of her life, the late Francis Richard Almy (2012) and resided in Gloversville. Alice is survived by her children, Brenda Almy-Moran (Joseph) of Wilbraham, MA, Gordon F. Almy (Rhonda), Michael T. Almy (Michelle), John A. Almy (Terese), all of Gloversville; her grandson, Brett McCue (Brittney); and her great-granddaughter, Peyton (Sweet Pea). Alice was one of 12 siblings and is survived by her sisters and brothers, Margie (Jack deceased) Batty, Larry White, Lois (Kurt deceased) Fisher, Connie (Don) Jeffers, Jack (Shirley) White, Willa (Dick) Schermerhorn, Joyce (Gary deceased) Brown, Paul (Judy) White, Tom (Fran) White, Dick White, Scott White, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Alice attended Gloversville public schools and was employed by St. Thomas for many years and later by Nathan Littauer Hospital. Alice loved her family, all of them including her brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins (second, third and fourth), as well as her close friends and lifelong neighbors. Alice enjoyed her family gatherings especially pie night at Margie’s on Thanksgiving and the annual White family reunion. She will be remembered for her famous fried doughnut holes and her fresh hot buttered popcorn (a recipe that was a secret until just recently). Alice was bitten by the gambling bug (Turning Stone was on speed dial and Saratoga was in her GPS). She also enjoyed playing scrabble (she always won). Playing cards on Thursdays with “the girls” and playing hand and foot with her son Gordy and daughter-in-law Rhonda on Friday nights. Alice and Francis always loved to dance and Alice always said that when she passed she would dance her way to heaven and Francis would meet her with open arms and they would be together again. It was Alice’s wishes that there would be no memorial or funeral services. Cremation was held at the Vale Crematory, Schenectady, NY.
