Sally J. Pepe

Sally J. Pepe, 80, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, NY. She was born May 20th, 1942, in Watertown, NY. Sally was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Virginia M. Lawrence of Ballston Spa, NY. Sally graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 1960. She was married on June 1, 1963, to Joseph A. Pepe, of Amsterdam, NY and they made Amsterdam their home. In 1979, Sally earned her associate degree in nursing from Fulton Montgomery Community College and became a licensed Registered Nurse. Sally worked in Schenectady County Infirmary system for 26 years before retiring. Sally was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Amsterdam, NY. More than anything, Sally loved her family without reservation. They were the center of her universe. Her favorite things included spending time with them, traveling, especially cruising, and Sally had the opportunity to visit many wonderful places during her life with the people she loved most. Sally’s “sparkle” will be sorely missed. Her ready smile and hearty laugh were infectious to those around her. She shared her nurturing spirit with everyone. As a nurse, she blessed the lives of so many during their elder and infirmed years. She cared for them as if they were her family too. Sally just had a way of making people smile-and making them feel cared for and loved. It was her gift. Sally is survived by her husband Joseph; three beloved children Christine Caffrey (Mark) of Tribes Hill, NY, Tracy Van Alstyne (George) of Washington, NJ and Joseph A. Pepe, Jr., of Amsterdam, NY; 7 grandchildren Mark Caffrey Jr., (Brianne Vecchio) of Tribes Hills, NY, Dillion Caffrey (Arianna) of Wilmington, NC, Maren Caffrey (Hugh Smith) of Rensselaer, NY, Ian Caffrey (Mikayla) of Fort Riley, KS, Maylin Caffrey of Tribes Hills, NY, Gianna Orecchio of Hewitt, NJ and Michael Van Alstyne of Washington, NJ; 4 great grandchildren Kennadee, Autumn, Nora, and Rhett; also surviving her brother Robert J. Lawrence II (Gayle) of Gansevoort, NY and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 4-7:00pm at Riley Mortuary, 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 5th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 Saint John Street, Amsterdam, NY. Burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.
