Vito "Peter" D'Errico

Vito “Peter” D’Errico, 95, of Gloversville died peacefully Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at his home in Gloversville, NY surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 7, 1924 in Gloversville to Tammaro and Carmella D’Errico. He married the love of his life Carmella Raso on September 15, 1946 and spent 71 wonderful years together. Peter is survived by his four daughters, Carmella (Timothy) Best of Caroga Lake, Emily (Brian) Jennings of Gloversville, Mary Jane D’Errico (Jim Izzo) of Gloversville and Teresa (George) Bevington of Johnstown; grandchildren, Kristine Orr (Scott Jacques), Peter (Megan) Orr, Tricia (Matt) Hillock, Jennifer Generoso, Brianne (Bobby) Loviza, Derrick (Nikki) Bevington, Jared (Katie) Bevington, Travis Bevington; great-grandchildren, Makenna Orr, Colton Hillock, Maia and Nick Generoso, Isabella and Olivia Loviza, Grayson and Jocelyn Bevington, Kellen Bevington, Gracie and Matthew Izzo; sisters Antoinette Sena, Jerry Budinscak, Jenny Palmieri. He is also survived by in-laws and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Carmella D’Errico, his parents, sisters Mary Maiello and Betty Natole, and Martha Persico; brothers Matt D’Errico, Jack D’Errico, Thomas D’Errico and Dominic D’Errico, great-grandson Gavin Bevington and grandson-in-law Vincent Generoso. Peter was a lifelong resident of Gloversville. He attended Gloversville Schools and was drafted into the Army at age eighteen. Peter took great pride in being a World War II Veteran. He served his country from March 27, 1943 to January 23, 1946. He was a T-5 Corporal of the Army 710th Tank Battalion. It was truly an honor for him to serve and he proudly wore clothes labeled with his World War II service daily. Upon returning from the service, Peter worked in the leather industry as a toggler for over 50 years. Supporting his wife and family meant everything to him. He was so proud of his Italian heritage and his happiest times were when his entire family was together feasting no matter what the occasion. He loved golfing from an early age and golfed into his nineties. He had five holes-in-one! Hot coffee and breakfast with his friends was a special time for him. Per his wishes there will be no calling hours. Friends of Peter are invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors which will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 28th at the Church of the Holy Spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his memory to Patriot Flight Inc., PO Box 13776, Albany, NY 12212-3776. Donations will go to local veterans who want to take the Honor Flight to Washington DC and visit memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of those who served. Arrangements have been entrusted to Amico Funeral Home, Gloversville, NY.
