John Peter Anagnostopulos

July 29, 1929 - January 24, 2022

John Peter Anagnostopulos, peacefully passed away on January 24, 2022, after a brief illness. He was born on July 29,1929 in Johnstown, New York, to Peter and Alexandra Anagnostopulos. As a first generation American, John spoke Greek at home and worked alongside his parents, brothers and sister supporting their family business, Pete’s Snack Bar. After graduating from Johnstown High School in1947, John worked in the leather business before being drafted to serve in the Korean War. He was discharged from the Army as a Staff Sargent and returned to this area. In 1955, John married the love of his life, Gloria Ann Savarese, in Gloversville. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Siena College while working for local companies and supporting a growing family. After a twenty-year career at Coleco, John spent time helping at Pete’s Snack Bar, which had been passed on to his sister, Jean Anagnostopulos. John was affectionately known as “The General” by several of his friends at Pete’s, now operated by his son, Mike. John loved seeing people and sharing stories. John was predeceased by his sisters Jean and Mary, brothers Angelo and William, and in 2011 by his wife, Gloria. He was deeply proud of his family and is survived by his five sons, Mark (Janet Zinter), Brattleboro, VT; Matthew, Rapid City, SD; Michael (Tammy), Johnstown; Peter, Gloversville; Louis (Karen), Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Jack, Mayfield; Joseph, Johnstown; Claire, Boston MA; Andrew, Auburn Hills MI; and John, Angela (Spencer), and Summer of Rapid City; three great-grandchildren, Caiden, Jay, and John of Rapid City; and several cousins.
