Margit Burkus

March 11, 1934 - January 4, 2021

Margit Burkus, 86 formerly of Gloversville peacefully passed away at The Paramount at Somers Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Monday January 4, 2021. Born in Boldogkoujfalu, Hungary on March 11, 1934, she spent the last 64 years here in the United States making homes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and the last 28 years in New York. Margit was the second child born to parents John and Margit Halasz Koleszar of Boldogkoujfalu, Hungary. Margit occupied many roles in this life; wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After raising her two children, she devoted herself to later raising her four grandchildren, where she could often be found spending her mornings and afternoons outside in her garden, nurturing and weeding, taking such incredible pleasure in their success. She was truly remarkable, strong, and courageous woman, where her strength, determination and constant optimistic spirit inspired many. Margit was constantly smiling and sought the joy and laughter in each day, where anyone who walked through her door was made to feel welcome at home. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community. Survived by her loving grandchildren, Jessica (Nicholas) Grasso, Nichole, Violet, and Sarah Burkus, daughter Margo (Greg) Maklae, sister Irene (in Hungary), brother Joseph (Elizabeth) Koleszar of Hampton, NH, great grandchildren, Ella, Morgan, and Lincoln, as well as many other family members and friends who she adored deeply. Pre-deceased by her son Alexander Burkus, ex-husband Sandor Burkus, and her eldest sibling, Steve Koleszar. Friends may call Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 10-11AM at Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main St, Gloversville, where services will be held there at 11AM. Face masks and social distance is required.
