Rickie "Rick" Jay Hennessey

May 20, 1953 - March 19, 2021

Rickie “Rick” Jay Hennessey, 67 of Gloversville, NY passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 at home surrounded by his wife and children, after a nine year battle with cancer. He was born on May 20, 1953 in Roaring Spring, PA, son to the late Clement and LaRue (Hopkins) Hennessey. Rick grew up in Johnstown, NY, attended Johnstown schools and later moved to Saratoga, NY where he spent many years at Saratoga Harness Racing Inc., as owner, trainer and driver of harness horses. Subsequently, he worked at Pan American Leather, W. Springtime Racing Stables, Market Street Sub & Pizza, and also as a groundskeeper at Hawthorne Farm before retiring due to his illness. Rick enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting and fishing at his camp. He also took great pride in his garden and had an ongoing enthusiasm for his scratch offs. Although he had a quiet nature, he truly had a big heart and loved his family immeasurably. He is survived by his wife, Debra A. (Dicruttalo) Hennessey; his children Cori (Thomas) Ryan, Scott Hennessey, Ian (Annie) Hennessey, Cassie Hennessey (Paul Sirianni), Callah Hennessey; stepdaughters Christa (Ryan) Morrone and Caylyn (Bill) Leier; grandchildren Tyler Vogle, Briar Hennessey and Emett Hennessey. He is also survived by his siblings Gail Shepherd, Clement (Carol) Hennessey, Ann (Robert) Aguilera, Edward (Sandy) Hennessey, Kelly (Jill) Hennessey and Thomas (Jill) Hennessey as well as aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, James Shepherd. His family expresses their sincere appreciation to all for their compassion over the past few years during his illness. There are no calling hours. Services will be held privately by the immediate family. Due to COVID, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
