Maurice Matthew Farhart

Maurice Matthew Farhart of Gloversville passed away on November 24,2025. Mr. Farhart began as Manager of Community Organization and Services in 1968 for Fulton and Montgomery counties thru October 2000. In 1975, Maurice became Director of Head Start and retired in December 2002. In 1970, he became Coordinator of Neighborhood Centers located in Gloversville, Amsterdam, and Canajoharie. Maurice graduated from Gloversville High School in 1956. He obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Bonaventure University in 1960. Mr. Farhart went on to complete a Degree of Master of Business Administration from Siena College in 1967, Maurice married former Sharon Longway of Utica on July 3, 1971. Maurice is blessed to leave behind daughters Celeste Farhart of Schenectady and Adrienna Farhart-Ward (Scott) of Caledonia. He leaves behind a granddaughter, Meghan, and step grandchildren Shannon (Jared) and Ryan of Caledonia. Farhart had been an integral part of the landscape of Fulton and Montgomery Counties. His tireless devotion to the citizens and especially the children of our two counties is unsurpassed. Through his leadership, many children and families have seen a significant improvement in the quality of their lives. What Farhart had done, in essence was to give back to the community a resource to help the culture of the two counties by allowing the children to have the opportunity to accomplish anything they decided to undertake in life .Coming from an immigrant family that set up roots in the two county area, Farhart was instilled with a sense of duty from very early on in life. His family always taught him to give back to the community that had given him so much. The unique thing about Farhart's contribution to the community and the Gloversville Enlarged School District is that his accomplishments were so broad range. He had grown the Head Start program from practically nothing to one of the premier model programs that is emulated throughout the state, to help children socialize and become better citizens within our community. Maurice Farhart had the ability to constantly give of himself, even if it hurt. He was always there to better the community in which we all live. Friends may call Friday November 28,2025 from 10AM-11AM at Holy Spirit Church, Gloversville, where a Mass of Christan Burial will follow at 11AM. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
